Learn to Sail

Congratulations

You’ve taken the first step to learn how to sail. You’ve probably been thinking about sailing and wanting to learn for a while. Don’t worry, you’re not alone and no, not everyone has grown up sailing.

Sailing is one of the most enjoyable activities that can be learned and enjoyed at any age. Although it may appear difficult and daunting at first it doesn’t have to be. How long have you thought:

  • Where do I even start?

  • Is it going to be hard to learn?

  • I’ll be embarrassed as everyone probably knows more about this than me.

All of these are normal feelings. Don’t worry.

At Spinnaker Crew Sailing, we recognize that and are proud to say that we can take someone from not knowing what a “bow” is to feeling comfortable to cruise the Great Lakes, buy and sail your own boat, take a vacation and charter a boat in the British Virgin Islands, or sail beyond.

We blend the right amount of instruction with on the water, step-by-step teaching to ensure you’re comfortable… all the while having fun and staying safe!

Choose the option that works best for you below

  • Private Instruction

Are you new to sailing and don’t know if its right for you or your family? Or are you looking to grow your skills? In either case, private instruction is available for you and your crew (e.g., family, friends). Whether you are brand new to sailing of have experience, by taking private instruction from licensed U.S. Coast Guard Captains who are certified instructors by the American Sailing Association, you can feel confident that you will get what you need. This is a great option for those who have specific requests. For example, we have provided custom instruction on other’s sailboats so that they gain familiarity through 1:1 instruction on sail trim and boat handling. Private instruction can be arranged in 4 or 8 hour segments.

  • Spinnaker Crew Sailing Lessons

Are you ready to learn how to sail, but don’t want or need to get officially certified by the American Sailing School? Or are you wanting to brush up on specific skills? At Spinnaker Crew Sailing, we recognize that getting certified from the American Sailing Association may not be your goal but that you would still like to learn in a more structured way on specific topics. We have created several lessons that are very popular and, in our experience, reflect the key areas that individuals are looking to gain more confidence in. These topics are taught in 4 hour sessions.

  • American Sailing Courses

Spinnaker Crew Sailing is proud to offer its students the ability to get certified through the American Sailing Association. The ASA Certification process provides you not only the knowledge and the skills that you are looking for but also provides the credentials that a chartering company is looking for when looking to use one of their boats.
