Spinnaker Crew Sailing nationally selected to roll out the new ASA 102 course!

It's not often that you get a chance to be first, but today we get that chance. Spinnaker Crew Sailing was one of the few nationally qualified and selected by the American Sailing Association to offer their new ASA 102: Keelboat 2 course. We were selected because of our mix of certifications, experience and student feedback. We don't take this honor lightly!

So what is ASA 102 anyway?

The ASA 102 course is a follow-on to the ASA 101: Basic Keelboat course. It was designed for ASA 101 graduates to continue to refine and hone their sailing skills. The official objective from the ASA:

"Able to skipper and crew aboard a sloop-rigged keelboat of approximately 20-30 feet in length by day in winds up to 20 knots. Depart, sail, and return with control demonstrating teamwork"

This course provides needed education that was not part of the ASA 101 course and was logically the next step. In this course, students will learn more around boat handling, sail trim concepts, sail shape and power, and how sail controls affect sail shape and power. And practically, they will put those concepts into use during the skill building portion of the course as it will apply to both upwind sail trim and reaching & running sail trim.

In the next few weeks, we will be rolling out the 2024 sailing season schedule for this course and all our courses. So stay tuned! Until then, if you would like to learn more about the ASA 102 course, click on the button below which will take you directly to the ASA website that spells out the 102 in even more detail.
