We are proud to offer the Coastal Navigation Course (ASA 105) online for students. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to apply the navigational theory and practices for safe navigation of a sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters. Topics in this class include using tide and current tables, determining courses and bearings, plotting a dead reckoning position on a chart, calculating the effect of current and leeway, and charting position from terrestrial objects.

The class is taught over 16 hours:

  • March 10: 5 PM - 9 PM

  • March 11: 5 PM - 9 PM

  • March 17: 5 PM - 9 PM

  • March 18: 5 PM - 9 PM

This course will give students the experience necessary to chart a course of at least 20 miles and three course changes.

There are no prerequisites for this course. ASA 105 is a prerequisite for ASA 106. It is also very helpful for those students who are looking to bareboat charter a sailboat in locations like the BVI, Croatia, etc.
